In 2024, the Western Cape Education Department partnered with First Energy Solutions to lower electricity costs in schools by implementing solar energy solutions.
The project specifications included the use of glass-on-glass solar panels, chosen for their enhanced efficiency, durability, and lower fire risk compared to panels with plastic backing.
The installations featured 50kW Hybrid Inverters paired with batteries from the same manufacturer to ensure compatibility and performance. These systems were also equipped with Small-Scale Embedded Generation (SSEG) registrations, for which First Energy Solutions is nationally recognised as a leader in these processes.
Each SSEG application was accompanied by on-site assessments conducted by engineers registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). This rigorous approach is critical because a poorly executed SSEG application can lead to system failures, potentially causing fires or other catastrophic events. Such incidents not only pose safety risks but also attract scrutiny from local councils and property insurers, potentially leading to significant financial and reputational damage for the installer.
First Energy Solutions continues to lead and set benchmarks for solar installation standards across South Africa, emphasizing professionalism and safety in all their projects.
