Solar Power for Camps Bay, Atlantic Seaboard – 20 kW Solar Installation
First Energy Solar Installers has completed a 20 kW solar installation at a home in Camps Bay, on Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard. Forty-two 540 W LONGi glass-on-glass panels (22.7 kWp) feed 20 kW of GoodWe three-phase hybrid inverter capacity, and the system is expected to generate at least 38,375 kWh a year – avoiding more than 16 tons of CO₂ annually.
The brief: a large coastal home on three-phase supply
Camps Bay homes are large, often with pools, air-conditioning, lifts and multiple geysers, on three-phase City of Cape Town supply, and they face salt air and strong south-easter winds. The brief was to cover a high daytime load with a three-phase system that could take a battery for load shedding and withstand the coastal environment.
The solution: 42 LONGi panels on 20 kW of three-phase hybrid inverter capacity
- 42 × 540 W LONGi glass-on-glass solar panels (22.7 kWp)
- 20 kW of GoodWe three-phase hybrid inverter capacity, installed grid-tied and ready for a battery
- Anodised aluminium mounting and stainless fasteners for the coastal environment
- Online monitoring of generation and consumption
- Certificate of Compliance and City of Cape Town SSEG registration handled by First Energy
Three-phase hybrid inverters balance the home’s load across all three phases and accept a high-voltage lithium battery bank, while the 22.7 kWp array keeps generation strong through winter.
The results
- Estimated annual generation: 38,375 kWh – roughly 3,200 kWh a month
- Carbon avoided: over 16 tons of CO₂ per year
- Daytime loads across all three phases now run on solar
Actual savings depend on how much of the home’s consumption falls in daylight hours and on the applicable tariff, which is why we model every system on the client’s own usage before we quote. With a battery on the hybrid inverter, evening consumption and load-shedding cover come onto solar as well.

Frequently asked questions
Will salt air and wind affect solar panels in Camps Bay?
Glass-on-glass modules have no exposed backsheet to corrode, and we use wind-rated anodised aluminium rails with stainless hardware. Periodic rinsing keeps output high on the Atlantic Seaboard.
Can this Camps Bay system be upgraded with a battery?
Yes. The GoodWe three-phase hybrid inverters accept a high-voltage lithium battery bank at any time for load-shedding backup and evening use.
Does a home solar system in Camps Bay need to be registered?
Yes. Camps Bay is supplied by the City of Cape Town, which requires all grid-connected systems to be registered as small-scale embedded generation (SSEG). First Energy prepares and submits the application as part of the installation.
